The Sukenari YXR7 Petty 165mm is a compact, high-performance utility knife built around excellent edge retention and toughness.
YXR7 is a high-speed tool steel known for its wear resistance and edge stability, making it well suited to users who want a long-lasting, aggressive edge. Sukenari pairs this with a clean, controlled grind that feels solid in hand while remaining thin enough behind the edge for smooth cutting.
At 165mm, this Petty is especially versatile for meat trimming, portioning, fruit, vegetables and smaller board work where a full-sized Gyuto feels unnecessary.
A practical choice for those who value edge longevity, precision and a more substantial feel than an ultra-thin laser.
- Don't cut hard things! Japanese knives are brittle so bone hacking is a NO NO!
- Wash with neutral detergent after use, and wipe dry;
- Please don't wash knife with dishwasher, it will damage the wood handle;
- Be careful not to leave the knife close to a heat source for a long time;
- It is a lot more dangerous to cut with a blunt knife than a sharp knife!
- It is best to sharpen a Japanese knife regularly on a waterstone.
- Semi-stainless steel won't rust easily but may still patina
