Miyazaki Kajiya

Miyazaki Kajiya is the workshop of Haruki Miyazaki (宮崎春生), a young blacksmith working alone on the Goto Islands of Nagasaki Prefecture. After finishing high school he decided to become a blacksmith and apprenticed under master craftsman Toshio Oba in Fukuoka, known for the traditional Hakata Ippon Hocho, for about five years before returning to Goto to open his own small forge.

Miyazaki-san crafts each knife by himself using traditional methods: hand-laminating the blades, heat treating over pine charcoal and quenching in water. His knives are known for Aogami 2 cores clad in stainless steel or iron with rustic kurouchi finishes and hammered tsuchime patterns, alongside denser Ginsan damascus work, like the Hatsukokoro collaboration knives we stock.
